General

We practice Hatha Yoga based on Integral Yoga developed by Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. This holistic approach integrates body, mind, and spirit through a combination of asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), and meditation. Unlike purely physical yoga styles, Integral Yoga emphasizes inner awareness and conscious evolution alongside physical practice.

Our classes incorporate traditional Hatha Yoga postures adapted to each student's needs, making the practice accessible whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced practitioner. The philosophy behind Integral Yoga recognizes that true well-being comes from harmonizing all aspects of your being. Each session is designed to help you develop strength, flexibility, and mental clarity while cultivating a deeper connection with yourself.

Yoga therapy is a personalized, evidence-based approach that uses yoga practices to address specific health conditions, injuries, and chronic ailments. Unlike regular yoga classes, yoga therapy sessions are individually tailored after a thorough assessment of your physical condition, medical history, and personal goals. Barbara designs a customized practice plan that may include specific asanas, breathing exercises, meditation, and lifestyle recommendations.

This therapeutic approach works alongside conventional medicine, not as a replacement. It has been shown to help with conditions such as chronic back pain, anxiety, depression, insomnia, hypertension, and recovery from surgery or injury. Each session is a one-on-one consultation where Barbara monitors your progress and adjusts your practice accordingly. Yoga therapy empowers you with tools and techniques you can practice at home between sessions for lasting improvement.

We believe in transparent pricing with no hidden fees. Early bird discounts are offered for bookings made 3 or more months in advance, and we occasionally provide returning student discounts. Payment plans are available to help you spread the cost comfortably. Each retreat page on our website provides a detailed breakdown of what is included and any optional add-ons. We strive to offer exceptional value by curating meaningful experiences at carefully selected venues that balance quality with accessibility for a range of budgets.

With over 15 years of dedicated practice and teaching experience, Barbara specializes in Integral Yoga as developed by Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. Her unique multicultural background and extensive training allow her to connect deeply with students from all walks of life and cultural backgrounds.

Barbara's journey into yoga began as a personal quest for healing and self-discovery, which evolved into a passionate vocation to share the transformative power of yoga with others. She has studied extensively in India and continues to deepen her knowledge through ongoing training and practice. Her warm, compassionate teaching style combined with her thorough understanding of yoga philosophy and anatomy makes her a trusted guide for beginners and experienced practitioners alike. Barbara founded Reconnect Yoga Therapy to create a space where holistic well-being is accessible to everyone.

Meditation is a practice of focused attention and awareness that trains the mind to achieve a state of clarity, calm, and inner peace. In the context of Integral Yoga, meditation is not about emptying the mind but about cultivating a deeper awareness of your thoughts, emotions, and inner self. It is a systematic process of turning your attention inward to discover the quiet space that exists beneath the surface of daily mental chatter.

There are many forms of meditation, including concentration meditation (focusing on a single point such as the breath), mindfulness meditation (observing thoughts without judgment), and guided visualization. At Reconnect, we primarily practice meditation techniques aligned with the Integral Yoga tradition, which emphasizes aspiration, receptivity, and surrender to a higher consciousness. Regular meditation practice has been scientifically shown to reduce stress, improve focus, enhance emotional regulation, lower blood pressure, and promote overall mental and physical well-being.

Our yoga classes are designed for everyone, regardless of age, fitness level, or prior experience. We welcome complete beginners who have never stepped on a yoga mat, as well as seasoned practitioners looking to deepen their practice through the Integral Yoga approach. Classes are particularly beneficial for professionals dealing with stress, individuals recovering from injuries, seniors seeking gentle movement, and anyone interested in holistic well-being.

Barbara adapts each session to accommodate different body types and physical conditions. Whether you are dealing with chronic pain, seeking stress relief, or simply wanting to improve your flexibility and strength, our inclusive approach ensures you receive personalized attention. Many of our students in Singapore come from diverse backgrounds and find that Integral Yoga meets them exactly where they are on their wellness journey.

Yes, yoga is highly effective for managing and reducing back pain. Research consistently shows that regular yoga practice can significantly decrease chronic lower back pain, improve spinal mobility, and strengthen the core muscles that support your spine. Through yoga therapy, Barbara creates targeted sequences that address the specific cause of your back pain, whether it stems from poor posture, sedentary work habits, muscle tension, or structural issues.

The approach combines gentle stretching to release tight muscles, strengthening exercises for the back and core, breathing techniques to reduce pain-related tension, and body awareness training to improve your posture throughout the day. Many students report noticeable improvement within 4 to 6 weeks of consistent practice. Barbara works in coordination with your doctor or physiotherapist when needed, ensuring a safe and comprehensive approach to your recovery and long-term spinal health.

No prior yoga experience is necessary to join our retreats. Each retreat is thoughtfully designed to accommodate all levels, from complete beginners to advanced practitioners. Barbara adapts the yoga sessions to ensure everyone can participate comfortably and safely, offering modifications for different abilities and fitness levels throughout each practice.

Retreats are actually an excellent way to begin your yoga journey because you are immersed in a supportive environment with dedicated time for practice and learning. Without the distractions of daily life, many first-time practitioners find they connect more deeply with yoga during a retreat than in regular classes. You will receive plenty of individual attention, clear instructions, and encouragement. All we ask is that you come with an open mind and a willingness to explore. Our retreats are as much about rest, self-discovery, and cultural exploration as they are about yoga practice itself.

Integral Yoga is a comprehensive spiritual path developed by Sri Aurobindo and The Mother at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry, India. Unlike yoga systems that focus primarily on physical postures, Integral Yoga seeks the transformation of the entire being, including body, vital energy, mind, and spirit. The goal is not to escape from life but to bring a higher consciousness into every aspect of daily living.

The practice integrates multiple yoga paths including Hatha Yoga (physical postures), Raja Yoga (meditation and mental discipline), Karma Yoga (conscious action), and Bhakti Yoga (devotion and aspiration). This holistic integration means that your yoga practice extends beyond the mat into how you work, relate to others, and navigate life's challenges. Integral Yoga is not a religion but a practical philosophy that complements any faith or worldview, offering tools for conscious living and personal evolution that are deeply relevant in our modern world.

Starting a meditation practice is simpler than you might think. Begin by finding a quiet, comfortable place where you can sit undisturbed for a few minutes. Sit in a comfortable position, either on a cushion on the floor or in a chair with your feet flat on the ground. Close your eyes gently and bring your attention to your natural breathing rhythm without trying to change it. When your mind wanders, simply notice and gently return your focus to the breath.

Start with just 5 minutes daily and gradually increase the duration as you become more comfortable. Consistency matters more than duration, so a short daily practice is far more beneficial than occasional long sessions. Barbara teaches structured meditation techniques in her classes that provide a clear framework for beginners. Guided meditation sessions are available both in-person and online, offering step-by-step instruction that makes the practice approachable and enjoyable. The key is patience and self-compassion — meditation is a skill that develops gradually with regular practice, and there is no such thing as a failed meditation.

Each class follows a structured yet flexible format designed to nurture your complete well-being. Sessions typically begin with a brief centering meditation to help you transition from daily life into your practice. This is followed by gentle warm-up exercises and pranayama (breathing techniques) to prepare your body and calm your mind.

The main portion of the class includes a sequence of Hatha Yoga asanas (postures) carefully selected and adapted to the group's needs. Barbara provides clear instructions and individual adjustments to ensure safe alignment. Classes conclude with a deep relaxation practice called Yoga Nidra or Savasana, allowing your body to integrate the benefits of the practice. You can expect a nurturing, non-competitive atmosphere where the focus is on your personal experience rather than achieving perfect poses.

Absolutely. Yoga is one of the most effective natural approaches for managing anxiety and stress. The combination of mindful breathing (pranayama), physical postures, and meditation directly activates your parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the relaxation response. Regular practice helps lower cortisol levels, reduce heart rate, and calm the mind, providing both immediate relief and long-term resilience against stress.

In yoga therapy sessions, Barbara teaches specific breathing techniques and meditation practices that you can use anywhere, whether at your desk, during a commute, or before sleep. These practical tools help you manage anxiety symptoms in real-time. Many students in Singapore, particularly those in high-pressure corporate environments, have found significant improvement in their stress levels, sleep quality, and overall emotional balance through consistent Integral Yoga practice. The effects are cumulative and sustainable with regular practice.

The ideal meditation duration depends on your experience level and schedule. For beginners, we recommend starting with 5 to 10 minutes per day. This may feel short, but even brief periods of focused awareness create meaningful changes in your brain and nervous system over time. As your practice deepens, you can gradually extend to 15, 20, or 30 minutes per session.

Experienced meditators often practice for 20 to 45 minutes daily, and some may sit for longer during retreats or intensive practice periods. However, the quality of your meditation matters far more than the quantity of time spent. A focused 10-minute meditation is more beneficial than a distracted 30-minute session. Barbara recommends building your practice gradually and finding a duration that feels sustainable for your lifestyle. Many students find that meditating at the same time each day, whether morning or evening, helps establish a consistent habit. The most important thing is to practice regularly rather than striving for a specific duration.

We offer both private individual sessions and small group classes to suit your preferences and goals. Group classes are kept intentionally small, typically with a maximum of 8 to 10 participants, ensuring that each student receives adequate personal attention and adjustments throughout the session.

Private sessions are ideal if you have specific health concerns, want to work on particular goals, or prefer one-on-one guidance. These sessions are fully customized to your body, pace, and objectives. Group classes offer a wonderful sense of community and shared energy while still maintaining a personalized approach. Many students in Singapore choose a combination of both formats, attending regular group classes for consistency and booking occasional private sessions for deeper work on specific areas. Corporate group sessions are also available for workplace wellness programs.

The key difference is personalization and clinical focus. Regular yoga classes follow a general structure designed for a group, while yoga therapy is a one-on-one therapeutic intervention tailored specifically to your individual health needs. Before beginning yoga therapy, Barbara conducts a comprehensive intake assessment that reviews your medical history, current conditions, medications, and therapeutic goals.

In yoga therapy, every practice is designed with your specific condition in mind. The selection of postures, breathing techniques, and meditation practices is determined by your therapeutic objectives rather than a standard class plan. Progress is tracked systematically, and your practice evolves as your condition improves. Yoga therapy also includes home practice prescriptions, lifestyle guidance, and often coordination with your healthcare providers. While group classes focus on general wellness, yoga therapy is a structured healing process that addresses your unique health challenges with clinical precision.

We curate retreats in inspiring destinations across Asia that offer natural beauty, cultural richness, and spiritual significance. Our current and upcoming destinations include Nepal, Bhutan, Bali, Sri Lanka, and select locations in Southeast Asia. Each destination is chosen for its unique ability to enhance the retreat experience through its environment, traditions, and energy.

Nepal offers majestic Himalayan landscapes and deep spiritual heritage, while Bhutan provides an untouched kingdom steeped in Buddhist traditions and happiness philosophy. Bali combines lush tropical beauty with a rich yogic culture, and Sri Lanka offers ancient temples alongside pristine beaches. Barbara personally visits and evaluates each venue before offering it as a retreat destination, ensuring quality accommodation, safety, and authentic local experiences. New destinations are explored regularly based on student interest and the discovery of exceptional retreat venues that align with our Integral Yoga philosophy.

Our teaching philosophy centers on the belief that yoga is for everyone and that true transformation comes from within. Guided by the principles of Integral Yoga, we approach each student as a complete being, not just a physical body performing postures. The practice is always adapted to the person, never the other way around. We emphasize awareness, acceptance, and gradual evolution rather than competition or achievement.

Barbara believes that the yoga mat is a mirror reflecting our inner state, and that the insights gained through practice naturally extend into daily life. Her classes balance structure with spontaneity, tradition with modern understanding, and discipline with compassion. Every student is encouraged to listen to their body, honor their limits, and celebrate their progress, no matter how small. The ultimate goal is not physical perfection but greater self-awareness, inner peace, and the ability to navigate life with clarity and grace. Teaching is not about performing but about creating a sacred space for genuine transformation.

Yes, meditation is remarkably effective for improving sleep quality. Research has shown that regular meditation practice helps reduce insomnia, decrease the time it takes to fall asleep, and improve overall sleep duration and quality. By calming the nervous system and reducing the mental chatter that often keeps us awake, meditation creates the ideal internal conditions for restful, restorative sleep.

Specific techniques such as Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep), body scan meditation, and slow breathing exercises are particularly effective for sleep improvement. Barbara teaches these practices in her classes and can provide personalized guidance for students struggling with sleep issues. Many students report significant improvements in their sleep quality within just a few weeks of regular practice. Evening meditation routines that include gentle breathing and progressive relaxation can become a powerful replacement for screen time before bed. Unlike sleep medications, meditation addresses the root causes of sleep disturbance — an overactive mind and an overstimulated nervous system — without any side effects.

Classes are held at convenient locations across Singapore, including dedicated yoga studios and private venues. We offer sessions in several central areas easily accessible by MRT, ensuring you can find a class near your home or workplace. Private one-on-one sessions can also be arranged at your home or office for maximum convenience.

Our main studio spaces are carefully selected for their calm, clean environments that support a focused yoga practice. Each venue provides all necessary equipment including yoga mats, blocks, and bolsters. For corporate wellness programs, Barbara travels to your office to conduct on-site sessions. Online virtual classes are also available for those who prefer practicing from the comfort of their own home, making Integral Yoga accessible no matter where you are located in Singapore or beyond.

No, a doctor's referral is not required to begin yoga therapy sessions with Barbara. You can book directly and start your therapeutic journey right away. However, if you are currently under medical treatment or have a serious health condition, we strongly recommend informing your doctor about your intention to practice yoga therapy, as this supports a coordinated approach to your care.

If your doctor or physiotherapist has referred you, Barbara will be happy to communicate with them to ensure your yoga therapy plan complements your existing treatment. Many healthcare professionals in Singapore increasingly recommend yoga therapy as a complementary approach for conditions like chronic pain, anxiety, and recovery from surgery. During your initial consultation, Barbara will review your health history thoroughly and may suggest you consult with your doctor about specific aspects of your practice if she identifies any areas requiring medical clearance first.

Our retreats maintain intimate group sizes of 8 to 16 participants, ensuring a deeply personal and meaningful experience for everyone. This carefully chosen number allows Barbara to provide individual attention to each participant while fostering a warm sense of community and connection among the group. Smaller groups also mean better access to venues, smoother logistics, and a more peaceful overall atmosphere.

The intimate setting encourages authentic connections between participants, and many of our retreat alumni have formed lasting friendships with fellow attendees. Each retreat includes dedicated time for both group activities and personal reflection, so you can balance social interaction with solitude as you prefer. If a retreat reaches maximum capacity, we maintain a waitlist and may add additional retreat dates for popular destinations. Private group retreats can also be arranged for groups of friends, families, or corporate teams who wish to have an exclusive experience.

Yes, all classes and sessions are conducted in English, which is the primary language of instruction at Reconnect Yoga Therapy. As Singapore is a multicultural hub, English ensures that all students can follow along comfortably and safely. Barbara is fluent in both English and Portuguese, and can provide additional guidance in Portuguese for Brazilian and Portuguese-speaking students when needed.

Sanskrit terms for yoga postures and breathing techniques are used alongside their English translations, helping you gradually become familiar with traditional yoga vocabulary. Barbara explains every instruction clearly and demonstrates each posture, so language is never a barrier to understanding. For private sessions, the language can be adjusted based on your preference. Our website and communications are available in both English and Portuguese, reflecting our commitment to serving a diverse international community in Singapore and connecting with our Brazilian community worldwide.

While often spoken of separately, meditation is actually a part of yoga, not a separate discipline. Traditional yoga encompasses eight limbs (Ashtanga), of which physical postures (asana) are just one, and meditation (dhyana) is another. In modern usage, "yoga" often refers specifically to the physical practice of postures, while "meditation" refers to the mental practice of focused awareness and stillness.

In our Integral Yoga approach, both elements are woven together seamlessly. Physical yoga postures prepare the body for comfortable seated meditation by releasing tension, improving posture, and balancing energy. Meditation, in turn, deepens the quality of physical practice by cultivating awareness and presence. They are complementary practices that together create a complete system for well-being. You can certainly practice meditation without physical yoga, and many people do. However, combining both yields the most comprehensive benefits for body, mind, and spirit. At Reconnect, every class includes elements of both physical practice and meditation to give you the fullest possible experience.

A typical group yoga class lasts 60 to 75 minutes, providing ample time for a complete practice that includes centering, warm-up, asanas, pranayama, and deep relaxation. This duration allows you to fully immerse yourself in the practice without feeling rushed, while still fitting comfortably into a busy schedule.

Private sessions usually run for 60 or 90 minutes depending on your needs and preferences. Longer sessions of up to 2 hours can be arranged for those wanting a more intensive practice or therapeutic yoga work. Corporate wellness sessions are typically 45 to 60 minutes, designed to fit into lunch breaks or after-work time slots. Regardless of duration, every class follows the complete Integral Yoga structure, ensuring you receive the full benefits of the practice in every session.

The number of sessions varies depending on your specific condition, its severity, and your personal goals. During the initial assessment, Barbara will discuss a recommended treatment plan with you. For mild to moderate conditions, many clients notice meaningful improvement within 6 to 8 sessions. More chronic or complex conditions may benefit from 12 or more sessions spread over several months.

Typically, sessions begin weekly to establish your practice foundation and build momentum, then gradually transition to biweekly or monthly as you gain confidence in your home practice routine. Barbara equips you with a personalized home practice plan from the very first session, so healing continues between appointments. The goal of yoga therapy is ultimately to empower your independence, giving you the tools and knowledge to maintain your health long after formal sessions end. Progress reviews are conducted regularly to ensure the therapy remains effective and aligned with your evolving needs.

After booking, you will receive a detailed packing list specific to your retreat destination and season. Generally, we recommend bringing comfortable yoga clothing for daily practice, layered clothing suitable for the local climate, a light jacket or shawl for meditation sessions, sturdy walking shoes for excursions, and personal toiletries. Yoga mats and props are provided at all retreat venues.

Essential items include sunscreen, insect repellent, a reusable water bottle, any personal medications, and a journal for reflection. For destinations like Nepal and Bhutan, warmer layers are important as temperatures can vary significantly. We suggest packing light and leaving room for local treasures you may want to bring home. A small daypack is useful for excursions. If you have specific dietary supplements or snacks you rely on, bring those as well. Barbara provides complete destination-specific guidance well in advance so you can prepare comfortably and confidently for your journey.

Not at all! This is one of the most common misconceptions about yoga. You do not need to be flexible to start practicing yoga. In fact, yoga is the tool that helps you develop flexibility over time, along with strength, balance, and body awareness. Coming to yoga with stiff muscles is like going to school without already knowing the subject — that is precisely why you are there.

Barbara frequently reminds students that yoga is not about touching your toes; it is about what you learn on the way down. Every posture has modifications and variations that make it accessible regardless of your current flexibility level. Props like blocks, straps, and bolsters are used to support your body and help you find comfort in each posture. Many of our most dedicated students began their journey with very limited flexibility and have experienced remarkable improvements through consistent practice. Progress is personal, and comparison with others is never encouraged in our classes.

Yes, we offer guided meditation sessions both as part of our regular yoga classes and as standalone meditation workshops. Guided meditation is an excellent option for beginners and experienced practitioners alike, as Barbara's voice and instructions help you maintain focus and deepen your practice. Sessions typically last 20 to 45 minutes and explore various meditation techniques suited to different needs and goals.

Our guided meditation offerings include Yoga Nidra (deep relaxation meditation), breath awareness meditation, concentration practices, visualization meditation, and loving-kindness meditation. Private guided meditation sessions can be customized to address specific concerns such as anxiety, insomnia, or emotional healing. Corporate meditation workshops are also available for companies seeking to improve employee well-being and productivity. Online guided meditation sessions are offered for those who prefer practicing from home. Barbara also provides audio recordings of guided meditations that students can use independently to support their daily practice between sessions.

No prior experience is needed to begin practicing yoga with us. Our classes are specifically designed to welcome absolute beginners alongside more experienced practitioners. Barbara's teaching style emphasizes clear, step-by-step instructions that make every posture accessible, with modifications offered for different levels of ability and flexibility.

Many of our students started with zero yoga experience and have progressed beautifully at their own pace. You do not need to be flexible, strong, or young to begin. Integral Yoga meets you where you are and gently guides your development. Barbara creates a supportive, judgment-free environment where questions are encouraged and every body is respected. If you have any specific health conditions or concerns, simply let Barbara know before your first class so she can provide appropriate modifications and ensure your safety throughout the practice.

Absolutely! Solo travelers are warmly welcomed and actually make up the majority of our retreat participants. Joining a retreat on your own is a wonderful opportunity for self-discovery, personal growth, and making meaningful connections with like-minded people from around the world. Many of our solo participants describe the experience as life-changing and return for multiple retreats.

Barbara creates a safe, inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable, whether they arrive alone or with companions. Shared accommodation options are available for solo travelers who want to reduce costs while enjoying companionship, and single rooms are available for those who prefer privacy. From airport pickup to daily activities, every logistical detail is handled so you can focus entirely on your experience. Group meals, cultural excursions, and evening sharing circles provide natural opportunities to connect with fellow participants. You will never feel alone or left out during a Reconnect retreat.

Reconnect Yoga Therapy stands apart through its foundation in Integral Yoga and its deeply personalized approach. While many studios focus primarily on the physical aspects of yoga, we address the complete spectrum of well-being, integrating body, mind, and spirit in every session. Our small class sizes ensure you are never just another face in a crowded room but a valued individual receiving genuine attention and care.

What truly distinguishes us is Barbara's therapeutic expertise combined with her warm, authentic teaching style. Whether you attend a group class, private session, or retreat, you will experience a depth of practice that goes beyond exercise into genuine self-transformation. We also offer unique experiences through our international yoga retreats in destinations like Nepal and Bhutan, creating opportunities for profound personal growth in extraordinary settings. Our bilingual English-Portuguese approach reflects the inclusive, multicultural spirit of Singapore and our commitment to making yoga accessible to a diverse global community. At Reconnect, yoga is not a workout — it is a way of life.

Wear comfortable, breathable clothing that allows you to move freely. Choose fitted or semi-fitted tops and leggings or yoga pants that won't restrict your movement during postures. Avoid overly loose clothing that may ride up during inversions or forward bends. Natural fabrics like cotton or moisture-wicking materials work best in Singapore's tropical climate.

Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated and a small towel if you tend to perspire. Yoga mats and props are provided at our studio locations, but you are welcome to bring your own mat if you prefer. Practice is done barefoot, so no special footwear is needed. We recommend arriving 10 to 15 minutes before your first class to settle in and complete a brief health questionnaire. Avoid eating a heavy meal at least 2 hours before class for a more comfortable practice experience.

We understand that plans can change, and our cancellation policy is designed to be fair and transparent. Cancellations made more than 90 days before the retreat start date receive a full refund minus a small administrative fee. Cancellations between 60 and 90 days receive a 75% refund. Between 30 and 60 days, a 50% refund or full credit toward a future retreat is offered. Cancellations within 30 days are non-refundable but may be transferred to another person.

We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance that covers trip cancellation, as this protects your investment against unforeseen circumstances such as illness, family emergencies, or travel disruptions. In the rare event that we need to cancel a retreat due to circumstances beyond our control (natural disasters, political instability, or insufficient enrollment), participants receive a full refund or the option to transfer to an alternative retreat date. All terms are clearly outlined in the booking agreement provided at registration, ensuring complete transparency from the start.
